Members of the Catholic clergy wait for the arrival of Pope Benedict XVI before a Holy Eucharist at the Olympic stadium(via guardian.co.uk)“Members of a homophobic group who ironically have vowed to never have sex with women wait for the arrival of a man who wears silly hats and dresses who will feed them the flesh and the blood of a magical man who allegedly lived over 2,000 years ago and who was also his own son.”
vruz: and don’t forget he’s also a bird, who impregnated the mother of the son. yes, the son is both the son and the bird who impregnated his own mother. it’s like marty mcfly having a *successful* date with his own mother, but marty mcfly is also a dove. zoophiliac and incestuous connotations aside, the paradox alone is already crazy, right?
Jesus breaks down

vruz: paraphrasing Leonard Cohen: I don’t mind the guy, but I cannot stand the scene.
vruz: this is quite amazing. I love it. I don’t even have to spin it.

Alexander The Great was documented on many pieces of contemporary art and even currency. There are contemporary writings about him from all over the globe as well as writings from people who served under him and faced him and his conquest in battle. We even have writing in Alexanders own hand. There are no contemporary writings or images of Jesus.
Most importantly though, almost no one, save a few scholars, live their lives according to the word of Alexander The Great. And even for those scholars, the words of Alexander The Great are enough on their own. In other words, if it were revealed tomorrow that there never was an Alexander the Great, who would give a shit? It’d be huge historically, but really, it wouldn’t change who anyone is. If it were revealed that Jesus wasn’t real, a lot of people would change. They’d have to lose a part of their identity. The entire Christian belief system is contingent upon Jesus being a historical figure who more or less lived the life described in the books of the Gospels. The same isn’t true for Alexander.
And another thing, Alexander wasn’t magical. He didn’t rise from the dead or defeat a monster or walk on water or anything. What the fuck did Jesus have to walk on the water for anyway? Why couldn’t he just fly or teleport if he were going to violate natural law? It’s for dramatic effect, because that’s what good fiction writers do, create dramatic situations.
