Dec. 28 1903 was the birthday of Swing-era jazz pianist and band-leader, Earl ‘Fatha’ Hines (d. 1983) who helped shape the history of jazz. Early on, Hines played with Armstrong as one of the Hot Five, before he moved on to lead his own big band (‘the Organization’) in Chicago.
